“There’s been a terrorist attack on US soil & no media outlet is covering it.”
Why? “Because the perpetrators aren’t brown,” explains Twitter user @MrPooni. Furthermore, “the targets were black.”
Despite substantial coverage of the overseas terror attack in France yesterday, this event, which the FBI has called a possible case of “domestic terrorism,” has been largely ignored by the media.
In fact, many of the tweets on the #NAACPBombing hashtag are reference the lack of media coverage or, as in the case of MSNBC host Christopher Hayes, noting that he will be providing coverage.
Whether or not racism is the cause of this lack of coverage, the incident does seem to be further undermining trust in the media, particularly among people of color.
